- Part 1:
- Loading
- This is the part unique to auto carriers. The time it takes to load and unload the trailer.
A 10 car carriers has two decks or layers of vehicles. One vehicle rides over the cab and the other behind the cab. The trailer hauls 5-8 vehicles depending on their size. Eight small cars will fit. Pickups and SUV’s take more room and limit the number of cars on the trailer. This explains why trucks and SUV’s are more expensive than small cars
Pinch and squeeze room must be left between the cargo vehicles. Pinch room between the cars on the cab and the cars on the trailer so vehicles don’t contact when turning the carrier. Squeeze room for vertical movement of the cargo vehicles when the transporter drives of changing highway terrain during transport. Here is a good video of loading a “10 car hauler” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Xv70DCakiM The background music is a snoozer. Mute it out and listen to some tunes while you watch this.
The presenter does a good job of walking through the process of loading a different trailer setup https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zvb9cZ5CNAQ
That is a nice trailer
Last video, the music goes well with the action on this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBoW47t4tC8
38 minutes of hustling to load the trailer. All the cars are in one spot. No single loads, some of which can require re-positioning of vehicles. It took time to position the trailer decks for loading. All vehicles must be strapped down. Ten cars with four wheels make for 40 tie-downs.Don’t forget the drivers has to get out of these each car once they are loaded
